Darrell Leslie Goodpasture, 91, of Alma, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at his home. He was born Aug. 22, 1931 in Hennessey, OK. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict as a Seabee; worked as a lineman for OG&E for 31 years (17 years as the local representative for Alma, Dyer, Mulberry, Winslow, Chester, and Mountainburg), and he worked as an OG&E Safety Programs instructor for local elementary schools for 25 years. He was a volunteer for the Alma Fire Department for 20 years. He was an elder at the Alma Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise (Hamilton) Goodpasture; a sister, Peggy Venditti; and a brother, Harold Goodpasture.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Goodpasture of the home; a daughter, Teresa Coleman and husband Mike of Alma; three sons, David Goodpasture and wife Debbie of Alma, Mark Goodpasture and wife Christine of Springdale, and Doug Goodpasture and wife Andrea, also of Springdale; a sister, Lois Burdick and husband Paul of Enid; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be David Goodpasture, Mark Goodpasture, Doug Goodpasture, Mike Coleman, Jason Boen, and Paul Dobbs.
