Danny Lynn Godfrey, lover of his Lord and Savior Jesus, 63, a sailor – traveler – pirate (happiest on or under water), a resident of Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at his home.
He was born June 8, 1959, at Hobbs, New Mexico, to Grady Argene and Jeffie Jean Sewell Godfrey. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam era as a Seabee. He was a member of Olvey Bible Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed riding his Harley and was a friend of Dr. Bob and Bill Wilson. He was a guitar picker and a singer/song writer. He was a PADI Divemaster with a professional rating, a Master Diver with a recreational rating, and was a published underwater photographer. He loved to paint and draw and to cook and have friends and family over. Danny was a rescuer of abused animals, was a prankster and loved to make people laugh. He was a fighter, there was no giving up in Godfrey. He would say “My body may give out, but my mind never will.” He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carol Slifer; a brother-in-law, Greg Wilson; and a nephew, Eathan Slifer-Rone.
He is survived by the love of his life, Susie Gregory of Harrison; the mother of his heart, Gloria Godfrey of Cypress, Texas; the sons of his heart, Matthew (Hanah) Godfrey of Alpena, and Josh (Amy) Harris of Terrell, Texas; a brother, Charles (Cheryl) Godfrey of Lead Hill; three sisters, Judie Wilson of Chicago, Illinois, Sally (Rudy) Aleman of Cypress, Texas, and Glorianna Brooks of Jacksonville, Texas; an uncle and aunt, John and Linda Sewell of Harrison; numerous nephews and nieces; numerous great-nephews and great-nieces; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Holt Memorial Chapel with Elder Jason King officiating. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery near Ben Hur, under the direction of Holt Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Slifer, Rudy Aleman, Matthew Godfrey, Charles Godfrey, Josh Harris, and Landus Dutton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Schultz, Dr. Tom Leslie, Dr. Eric Schaffer and team, and Garland and Michael Brasel.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
