ALLPORT – Daniel David Ryder, 72, of Allport, passed away at Mount Nittany Hospital on Monday, May 24, 2021.

Born Jan. 21, 1949 in Point Lookout, Philipsburg, he was the son of the late Harry David Ryder and Wanda Marie (Reichart) Ryder.

Dan was married on Jan. 25, 1975 to Peggy Lee Mulhollem.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Philipsburg growing up and Palestine United Methodist Church in Morrisdale after marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; and children, Timothy John and wife Brenda, and William Joseph and wife Courtney, both of Morrisdale; five grandchildren, Daniel Richard, Noah David, Dylan Joseph, Addison Ann, and Gabriella Lee; two sisters, Clara Ann Swartz of Frewsburg, N.Y. and Helen Louise and husband Delbert Tobias of Ashland; and his aunt, Lina Ryder of Philipsburg.

Dan was preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Marie Phillips; in addition to his parents and stepmother, Vicki Ryder.

He grew up in Point Lookout, Philipsburg and was a 1967 graduate of Philipsburg High School.

Following high school, he served with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during Vietnam and completed two tours.

Dan was employed as a construction worker, tractor-trailer driver and worked for the state Department of Transportation until he retired in 2011. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, mechanics, his Bonneville, the outdoors and spending time with his friends and family.

He was a member of Philipsburg American Legion, Carpathian Club, VFW Post Life Member, Life Member of Lincoln Club, Life Member of Hope Fire Company, former member of BPOE 1173 and Emporium Country Club.

A private viewing followed by services at 11 a.m. will be held Friday, May 28 with Pastor Jeff Lauer officiating.

Interment will be held at the Palestine United Methodist Church.

Strange & Weaver Funeral Home of Morrisdale is in charge of arrangements.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Strange and Weaver Funeral Home, P.O. Box 238, Palestine United Methodist Church, or Palestine Cemetery, all in Morrisdale, PA 16858.
