Dale Harris
Robert Dale Harris, son of Thelma Oudia May Spray and Robert James Harris, was born October 27, 1949, in Cairo, Illinois and made his transition to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Dale’s journey was completed at his home in Charleston, Missouri surrounded by family and loved ones.
On February 10, 1969, Dale married Beverly Glenn Hayden from Charleston, MO, who is survives of the home. Other survivors of the family include his children Shannon Lynn (Shawn) Scott of Hartselle, AL, Micah Dale (Becky) Harris of Sikeston, MO; his grandchildren Ryan (Denae) Bambrough of Jackson, MO, Caitlyn (Mason) Williams of Sikeston, MO, Seth Scott of Bertrand, MO, and MaKayla Scott of Hartselle, AL; 2 great grandchildren, and countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Dale is preceded in death by his parents, James and Oudia May, his stepmother, Berniece, and his sisters, Donna and Sandra Kay.
Dale spent most of his adult life working with his father as an electrician and construction worker until going to work for Cargill, where he retired in 2006.
Dale loved his Lord, his family, and his country. He enlisted in the Navy as a SeaBee in 1968 and served 2 tours in Vietnam. After 6 years in the Navy, he joined the National Guard where he served for 24 1/2 years until he retired. He was a lifetime member of the VFW where he served as the local and state commander.
Dale was as also an active member of Wyatt Baptist Church. He served as a deacon there and made many close friendships while living life and walking out his service to the Lord.
One of the greatest legacies that Dale has left for his family and friends is the testimony of life transformation beginning in the early 90’s. It was during this time that Dale fully surrendered his life to the Lord and began his journey to sobriety. Dale was an avid believer in the support from the AA program. He helped to start AA in Charleston to give back to his community. He sponsored countless people in their journey to sobriety. His passion was to help others find the Lord and walk beside his brothers and sisters on their path to healing from addiction.
Apart from dedicating his life to the previously mentioned things, Dale also loved volunteering at the East Prairie Youth League Football concession stands. Affectionately known as “the popcorn man”, Dale was faithful to serve at the concession stand week after week. His main job was popping the popcorn – and no one could do it as well as he could. He enjoyed his time there and made lifetime memories with family and friends.
