KEOKUK – Mr. Dale Haisch Gabel, 92, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Keokuk, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at his home.
He was born Nov. 3, 1932, in Keokuk, Iowa, son of the late Emil and Flossie Haisch Gabel.
Dale was a 1950 graduate of Keokuk High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict as a Seabee, specializing in construction.
He married the love of his life, Nellie Mae Morgan, on April 17, 1957.
Dale worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, the Keokuk Fire Department, and most of his life as carpenter.
Dale enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and Cardinals, drinking coffee with friends, and visiting with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He dearly missed his wife Nellie, about whom he loved to tell stories.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Steven Dale Gabel (Kathy) of Oronoco, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Michael Arpino (Heather) of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Jessica Hoffman (Adam) of Oronoco; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nellie; six brothers: Marshall, Burnette, Earl, Eugene, Don, and Ray; his son Robert Arpino and daughter-in-law Mary Arpino; and a great-grandson Simon Arpino.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., with family meeting friends from 5-7 p.m., on Monday, March 3 at Printy Funeral Home, 917 Blondeau St., Keokuk.
A private family burial will be held at Keokuk National Cemetery.
