Date of birth 07/29/1941
Date of passing 09/30/2025

Claude William Norton, born on July 29, 1941, in Shinglehouse, passed away on September 30, 2025, at ECMC in Buffalo, New York. He was 84 years old.
Claude led a life marked by service, hard work, and a vibrant sense of humor that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. After graduating from school in Shinglehouse, he pursued further education in fire science-a fitting foundation for a career that would span numerous roles dedicated to public service and community support.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy Seabees, where he contributed to vital construction and engineering missions. Following his military service, Claude embarked on a diverse professional journey. He worked as a fireman in Los Angeles, California; held positions with the Better Business Bureau and Fire Conservation; drove city buses; engaged in building and painting projects; and managed properties as a landlord. Each role reflected his strong work ethic and willingness to take on new challenges.
Claude’s love for sports was boundless-he enjoyed them all-and his enthusiasm was infectious. But perhaps what endeared him most to others was his unmatched ability to tell jokes. Known far and wide as “the BEST joke teller,” Claude brought laughter wherever he went, brightening lives with his quick wit and warm spirit.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Melody (George) Norton; children Cameron (Darlene) Norton, Paige Norton, and Joshua Kilbourn; and grandchildren Elizabeth, Cody, Amber, Austin, Ashton, Chris, Luther, Taige, Emma, Colden, and Owen.
Claude was preceded in death by his parents Margaret (Kier) Norton and William Neal Norton, and brothers Craig Norton and Bernard Norton.
May the memory of Claude William Norton bring comfort to those who knew him and joy to those who recall his laughter. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 04:00 PM at Shinglehouse American Legion 1364 Route 44, Shinglehouse, PA.
