Charles Ray Watkins of Douglass passed away April 5, 2021, at his home at the age of 90. He was born September 3, 1930, in Douglass to parents Sam Houston Watkins and Annie Bell (Croft) Watkins.
A graduate of Douglass High School, Mr. Watkins received additional education in the United States Navy as a Marine Welder. He was a member of the Navy’s Seabees. He later worked as a Lead Man at Cameron Iron Works in Houston, specializing in precision manufacturing of tooled industrial products. Charles had a highly mechanical mind, and he loved working around the farm. He enjoyed games of 42 and dominos. He was a member of the Terrell Masonic Lodge of Alto, Texas.
Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his parents; wife of nearly 66 years, Lillian Josephine “Jo” Watkins; and many other family members.
He is survived his children, Michael Watkins and wife Kathryn, Sam Watkins and wife Beth, and Teresa Byars and husband Fred; grandchildren, Philip Watkins and Rebekah Watkins; sister, Mildred McLaughlin and husband Dr. Paul McLaughlin; brother-in-law, Thomas McBroom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Rev. Bobby King. Interment will be in Douglass Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches.
