Mr. Charles Edmond Sherrill

Charles Edmond Sherrill passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 10, 2024. Charles was 101 years old. He began life on February 12, 1923, in Erath County Texas as the first son of Waldo Charles Sherrill and Clara Pearl Grissett Sherrill.  His parents gave him a brother, George Hayden Sherrill, in 1925 and a sister, Mildred Maxine Sherrill, in 1928.  Charles attended the rural Lone Oak School through the 10th grade and graduated from Stephenville High School in June of 1941.

Charles met the love of his life, Mildred Arabella Nance, and married her on August 9, 1942.  That union lasted 64 years until Mildred passed.

Charles was drafted into the U.S. Navy at the age of 20 and joined the U. S. Naval Construction Battalion where he was assigned to the 61st Seabees.  He served maintaining diesel equipment in the South Pacific and the Philippine Islands until the end of World War II.

After the war, he moved his family to Dallas where he did insulation, air conditioning, and home construction.  He then moved his family to Houston to do carpentry work.  He found a job at Petro Tex Chemical Company where he had a long career in operations; retiring at age 62.  He spent the rest of his life with hobby-type jobs and travel across the U. S.

The biggest event of his life occurred in 1954 when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at South Houston Baptist Church.  After that he was a faithful servant and deacon at First Baptist Church of Genoa and South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena.

Charles loved his family and was blessed with three children:  Charles (Ed) Sherrill, Jr. and wife, Phillis; Nance Sherrill (deceased) and husband Phil Duncan; Greg Sherrill and wife, Darlene. The family added grandchildren:  Kristin Stratos and husband, Nick; Kevin Sherrill and wife, Alicia; Tammy Jones and husband, Rick; Tracie Lynch and husband, Bob; Terri Bagley and husband, Brian; Trisha Swearingin and husband, Ronnie; Philip Wayne Duncan (deceased) and wife, Julie; Ben Sherrill and wife, Dana; Jason Sherrill and wife, Candis; D. J. Sherrill and wife Amanda.  He was also blessed with 21 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, August 16, at 10:00am, at South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas. Charles will be laid to rest  beside his beloved wife, Mildred.
