Mr. Carlton Robert Hobbs

Date of passing 11/04/2023

Carlton Robert Hobbs, affectionately known to all as “Bob”, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023; he was 96 years old. Bob was born and raised in Berlin, one of three children to Casper and Lelia (Crossman) Hobbs. He attended high school in Hudson. As fate would have it, Bob met his future wife, Doris M. (Woodcock) while attending a dance at the Northborough Grange Hall. In 1950, they married. This was the start of a wonderful marriage of 69 years, until separated by Doris’ own passing in 2020. For many years Bob worked as a mechanic with Pierce Oil and Gas Co. of Northborough. He was a longtime active member of Trinity Church of Northborough where he also enjoyed participating in the Bell Choir. Bob honorably served with the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 511 during WWII and was a longtime proud member of the American Legion Post 162 in Berlin.
Bob and Doris enjoyed spending time with each other. They were active square dancers and for many years danced at the Bay Path Barn in Boylston. Bob enjoyed baking and was known for his delicious cookies, twinkies and most especially, his whoopie pies. Coupled with Doris’ artistic decorating ability, Bob and Doris created many wonderful wedding cakes for friends and family.
Family meant everything to Bob and Doris; their home was always open to unannounced visits and the preferred hosting site for many family events and cookouts. Together, they looked forward to embarking on spur-of-the-moment day trips and planned vacations with beloved family in York Beach.
Surviving Bob are two daughters, Judith M. Shooter and her husband Martin of Danvers and Susan D. Mikels of Hudson; four grandchildren, Gordon Noyes IV, Tara Amendola and her husband Dana, Eric Noyes and his wife Denise, Jennifer Cotting and her husband Brian; three great-granddaughters, Abigail Noyes, Elizabeth and Lillian Cotting, a great-grandson, Matthew Amendola, all whom he adored; one sister, Barbara Baker of Hudson and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his sibling, Sister Mary Barbara of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and by his son-in-law, Robert Mikels
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. Bob’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 13, in Trinity Church of Northborough, 23 Main Street, Northborough. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Howard Street Cemetery.
