Date of passing 12/22/2020

WATERTOWN – Arthur Edward “Pinky” Blais Jr., 81, a longtime resident of Watertown, passed away on Dec. 22, 2020, after a short illness.

Art was born in Waterbury to the late Arthur Edward Blais Sr. and Margaret (McInter) Blais. He was a graduate of Watertown High School, where he excelled as an athlete. He worked many summers as a lifeguard and swim instructor at Echo Lake.

He went on to proudly serve in the United States Navy Seabees MCB-10 Division from 1958-1962. He was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft and following retirement, at White Flower Farm.

Art was a talented carpenter and spent time making toys for his grandchildren, and beautiful furniture for family and friends. He loved gardening and taking care of his abundant flowers and vegetables. An outdoorsman at heart, he spent a lot of time fishing or playing golf.

Art was at his best when he was with family and friends. His eyes lit up any time his grandkids were near him and his laughter was contagious at family and friends gatherings. His warm hugs were legendary.

He was known for telling the best stories about his life and would capture his audience with his enthusiasm and vibrant details. His grandchildren especially loved stories of working on his best friend Joe Masi’s farm, and their antics together.

Art was a wonderful husband to his spouse of 57 years, Susan, and they enjoyed a lifetime of memories, especially spending time on Cape Cod.

He is survived by his wife, his daughters Amy, Gretchen and Rachel, and his son-in-law Rich. He was a devoted and cherished grandfather to his grandchildren Maxwell, Carson and Maddie. He also leaves a sister, Barbara O’Connor, sister-in-law Eileen Blais, and multiple nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother James Blais.

The Blais family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. R. Beri and the staff of the Saint Mary’s Hospital critical care unit for their care, and especially to Chaplin Judy for her support during this difficult time.

A celebration of Art’s life will be announced as soon as we can all be together. He was a communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Oakville.

Memorial donations in his name, Art Blais, can be made to the St. Mary Magdalen Annual Homefront Project, c/o St. Mary Magdalen Church, 145 Buckingham St., Oakville, CT 06779, where Art enjoyed volunteering his time.
