Final Salute

Silver Lake, NH – Arthur David Spence, 69, of Silver Lake NH, and formerly of Lynn, MA. passed away on May 28, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Salem, MA., Art grew up in Peabody graduating from Peabody High School in 1971. He was the son of the late E. David Spence and Juliette (Poussard) Spence.

Arthur was the husband of 46 years to Susan (Doucette) Spence. They resided in

Lynn for 40 plus years prior to retirement in NH. He was in the U.S. Naval reserve as a SeaBee and was a fine and talented carpenter. Art worked for over 4 decades in Marblehead, MA. He built the NH house and garage, always with the plan to retire in Mt. Washington Valley. Once there, many hours were spent moving snow and earth on his shiny, orange tractor.

In his childhood, Arthur fell in love with the outdoors and took the time to share that love with his brother, Ron. Fishing was his favorite pastime along with hiking, camping, bird hunting, trap shooting, kayaking (mostly to fish) and decades of skiing, with great friends, at Sunday River in Maine. Over the years, Art was an active member of various Fish & Game clubs: Carroll County (NH), Danvers (MA) and Lynn (MA).

In addition to his wife, Arthur leaves behind brother, Ronald and his wife, Jean of Port Orange, FL, many beloved cousins, several nieces and nephews and his long-time dear friends, Leonard and Maureen Pappas along with Kevin and Ellen McElligott. Also, the proud canine Dad to many dogs; his last being the fun-loving Bode who passed away in April 2023.

Service Information: A celebration of Art’s life will be held at 5pm on June 9, 2023 at the Hawthorne Hotel, 18 Washington Square W. Salem, MA. Please try to wear something blue – Art’s favorite color!
