On June 21, 2023, Allen Frank Moren died unexpectedly in Bloomington, Minnesota of natural causes. He was 57 years young.
Allen is survived by former wife Kimberly Roth-Moren, their children Tyler Moren, Sabrina Moren, and Thomas (Michelle) Moren; sisters Louie ‘Luana Moren’ Goodnough, Patricia Knops, Brothers Dale Moren and David Fergus; former Brothers-in-Law Jamie (Fawn) Roth and Justin Roth; dozens of Nieces and Nephews, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than can be counted. He was preceded in death by his beloved Grandmother Ella Moren, Father Thomas Moren, Mother Georgene Rice, Cousin Pat Strumbell Jr, and ‘Brothers from another mother’ Van Stoddard and Shane Myrlie.
Allen was born on September 30, 1965 in Golden Valley, Minnesota. He attended many schools throughout his childhood, graduating from Bloomington Kennedy High School in 1984. Allen worked at Seagate and Control Data Government Systems for many years where he made several life long friends and won awards for his contributions to process improvements. He joined the Naval Reserves and served several years as a SeaBee. Allen went on to attend Brown College where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in Advertising Design. During his time there he learned to troubleshoot computers and this led to an IT career spanning several years and various employers. In 2002 Allen felt called to work with people rather than computers. He started working as a home health aide and this was the beginning of his career in health care. Allen eventually attended Brown College again where he completed a degree in Medical Assisting in 2013. As a medical assistant Allen worked in various neurology and oncology clinics where he took great pride in caring and advocating for the patients he served. Along the way he continued to make lasting friends with both coworkers and patients. In 2022 Allen moved to a career where he could indulge in his love of physical labor and playing in the dirt when he joined Urban Landworks as a landscaper. He enjoyed creating beautiful landscapes and tackling new jobs and was known for his positive attitude and hard work.
Allen married Kimberly in 1993. Allen and Kimberly met in 1988 when they worked together at Control Data and were together for over 34 years. They welcomed Tyler in 1992, Sabrina in 1995, and Thomas in 1996. Allen was known for taking the kids on adventures when they were young; from overnight video game marathons, or pulling them out of school for a spontaneous road trip, to weekend visits with family and friends. He was often the loudest fan at their sporting events.
From a young age Allen shared a love of horses with his sister Louie. Over the years they regularly spent time together with their equine partners and equestrian friends. Allen trained several horses in his lifetime and shared his passion for horses with anyone he could. He was always on the lookout for someone to visit the horses with him and go riding.
As a teenager Allen became interested in martial arts and began studying karate. Allen dabbled in UFC style fighting but had too soft a heart to be successful. He shared his love of karate with his family, introducing Kimberly and their children to USA Karate where he eventually earned his 3rd Degree Black Belt. Allen was also an NCKA competitor and judge. He cherished his time with his karate family – “Might for Right”.
Allen also enjoyed the outdoors. Riding ATV, chopping wood, and even occasionally floating down the river were a few of the many activities he took part in. Fishing and deer hunting were his favorite outdoor endeavors. Many friends enjoyed an impromptu invitation to grill venison or have a fish fry. But as much as Allen liked being outdoors, a weekend stranded in a mosquito-filled swamp as a teenager left Allen with a life-long hatred of mosquitos. Unfortunately for him the mosquitos always found him the most attractive person in any outdoor gathering.
Allen will be remembered by many for his young at heart and cheerful attitude. Those closest to him will also remember his love of spicy, HOT, HOT foods and his habit of making a full cup of coffee, then leaving half of it to sit on the counter all day. Friendly and mischievous, Allen was also known for his off-beat sense of humor and boisterous personality. He made many phrases his own by inserting his name in them: “I’m AL-right” or “That was AL-ot”. Whether joking around with friends or singing along to songs with his own, often inappropriate, lyrics his voice was often the loudest in the room. But his heart was often the softest. Allen usually cheered for the underdog and would go out of his way to help a friend in need at a moment’s notice.
Much like his sister Louie, no matter what he was doing or who he was with, Allen had his phone with him. And he used it to document everything. He leaves his friends and family with thousands and thousands of photos, selfies, and videos to supplement the memories of him they hold in their hearts.
Allen’s faith was the most important thing in his life. Not only did he study the Bible daily but he was part of many Bible study groups, volunteer programs, and congregations during his lifetime. He fervently believed in and looked forward to an eternity with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
