Final Salute

Allen Derry Pierson MD, 91, of Fort Collins, died Monday, December 7, 2020. Born in Spencer, Indiana, he was the son of Dr. Robert Harryman and Irene (Derry) Pierson. The Pierson family, including Jane Pierson and Mary Pierson were long-time residents of Spencer. Allen attended Wabash College, graduating with a B.A. in 1951. He completed his MD at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1955, interned at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, and served in the US Navy Medical Corps as a Seabee Battalion Medical Officer in the Pacific from 1957-1959.

After his Navy service, Allen entered general practice in Leadville, Colorado, where he met and married Marilyn (Greene) Pierson. After completing his anesthesiology residency in Indianapolis, he and his young family moved to Fort Collins Colorado in February of 1966 where he became the first anesthesiologist on the medical staff of Poudre Valley Hospital, retiring in 1987.
