Albert V. Hilton Obituary

Albert Verne Hilton passed away peacefully at his home in Keene on Nov. 14, 2018.

Albert was born in Hartford, Conn., on May 2, 1918, the first child of Albert Victor and Myrtle Alice Hilton. The family moved to Keene in 1923. He lived in Keene his entire life and graduated from Keene High School in 1937. After high school, Albert worked for Kingsbury Machine Co. as a machinist until his retirement.

Albert married Pearl Irene Williams, daughter of Guy and Katrina Williams on June 2, 1943, at the Williams home in Keene.

Albert enlisted in the Seabees CBMU 565 in 1943. He entered Camp Peary, Williamsburg, Va., for training on Nov. 22, 1943, and transferred to Port Hueneme, Calif. He shipped out Feb. 21, 1944, aboard the U.S.S. Westpoint. The unit landed at Mile Bay, New Guinea in the South Pacific in March. After one year he left to fight in the East Indies on Morotai Island on Feb. 15, 1945. Albert returned to the United States on Nov. 1, 1945, arriving in Boston on Nov. 11, 1945, and mustered out on Nov. 13, 1945. Albert belongs to the Veterans of Foreign War Foundation and the American Legion.

Albert was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, who won the World Series both in 1918 and 2018.

Albert is survived by his brother, Marshall (Joyce) Hilton of Charlotte, N.C.; sister-in-law, Patricia Hilton of Keene; sister-in-law, Cathy Hilton of El Cajon, Calif.; and three generations of nieces and nephews.

Albert was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; siblings, Bernice Derby, Shirley Ecklund, Myrtle Morin, Beverly Frink, Frederick Hilton, Jeanie Hilton and Melvin Hilton.

Donations in Albert’s honor may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A memorial celebration of Albert’s life will be held in Keene in the spring 2019.
