Cecil B. Wood passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at Baptist Medical Center Nassau in Fernandina Beach, Fla., at the age of 84.

He was born November 20, 1936, in Ackerly, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Primm Wood; mother, Gladys Quinn Wood; and brother, Edward Wood.

He survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Gayle Powell of Monroe, Ga., and Claudene French of Amarillo, Texas.

He graduated from Lamesa High School in Lamesa, Texas, and soon moved to Hawaii, spending 22 years in the United States Navy. He began his naval career with the U.S. Naval Construction Force (Navy Seabees), then joined the Navy’s SEAL Team while serving in the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Navy Cross for his heroic valor and was awarded four Purple Hearts for his bravery. He retired from the Navy with the rank of master chief.

Cecil married Beverly Ann Hale on January 8, 1965, in Lamesa. They had two daughters, Angela Gayle Wood, born in 1966 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Regina Ann Wood McNutt, born in 1969 in Tyler, Texas. He was also very proud of his two grandchildren, Chandler Stephens Bobo, 19, and Cydney Ann Bobo, 15.

He was a wonderful father who loved his family and had a strong faith in Christ. He served as a church elder for many years at Airport Freeway Church of Christ in Euless, Texas.

He married Edith Jane Condry from Newport, R.I., in 2001. They called Florida home for almost 20 years, living in both Ocala and Fernandina Beach.

Cecil was a strong patriot and leader, served his country, and was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He touched so many lives in a positive way and will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors in Fernandina Beach. Service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 7, 2020 at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
