Final Salute

Major Carl Sylvan Vierck Age 94, of Exeland, WI, died Monday, September 8, 2025 in Rice Lake, WI. He was born on April 15, 1931 at “Ma Potters” in Radisson, WI to John and Louise Vierck of rural Exeland.

The Viercks moved into Lexington, WI when Carl was six years old. He attended eight years of grammar school there. Then went four years to Bethany Lutheran Boarding School in Mankato, MN. After graduation he worked briefly at the bank in Bruce, WI before joining the Navy Siebies on November 27, 1950. Following his discharge from the Seabees in 1954 he worked at the First Security Bank in St. Paul, MN until he was recalled to active duty in the Air Force during the “Bay of Pigs.” He was selected from a group of 4,000 by President John F. Kennedy for a commission to First Lieutenant in the Air Force where he spent his career retiring in 1978 as a Major on active duty and a Lieutenant Colonel in the reserves.

Carl served in Accounting and Finance during his career in the Air Force with highest credentials and top clearance. After retirement Carl returned to College in Omaha, Nebraska to earn more credits in Accounting and Finance. He was then employed by the Government in Accounting and Finance at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado and St. Paul, Minnesota. He retired from the Government in September 1994.

Carl is survived by his wife, Carol (Anderson) Vierck; 2 sons, John Vierck and Paul (Junko) Vierck; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Vierck; sisters, Frances Lusz and Katherine (Block) Novak; and a brother, John “Jack” Vierck. Carol was proud of his military service.

After retirement he loved living in the Exeland Area, reconnecting with people he grew up with and learning as much as possible about the history of the area. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Graveside Services and Full Military Rites will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
