Final Salute

Gary Edward Smith, 80, Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Burlington, Ontario, Canada passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

He was born June 8, 1942, in Syracuse, New York to William and Marion (Howe) Smith. After graduating from Syracuse University with a master’s in business administration, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Gary volunteered to deploy to Red Beach De Nang during Vietnam where he proudly served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade Seabee. Upon returning, Gary met and married Rose-Marie Leclerc, of Bathurst, New Brunswick, Canada, and settled in Burlington, Ontario, Canada for over 40 years. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, an avid golfer, and a dedicated father and grandfather. Gary moved to Kansas City, Missouri four years ago to be closer to family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sibling, Rusty (Smith) Van Houten and his wife Rose-Marie of 25 years.

Survivors include his children and daughters-in-law, Kynan (Jane Muir-Smith) and Kevin (Yvonne Corrales); four grandchildren Jordan and Keernan (Sandy) who reside with their parents in Perth, Australia; Aliana and Sean Smith who reside with their parents in Kansas City, Missouri.
