Lieutenant Junior Grade
David Scott Bibby of Bourne, a US Navy veteran, died on November 10. He was 78.
Born in Attleboro to Henry and Barbara (Childs) Bibby, he pursued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology and the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
As a civil engineer, he dedicated his professional life to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where he played a vital role in building roads and bridges that continue to serve communities across the state. His work left a lasting influence on the infrastructure of Massachusetts. He was known for his commitment to public service and craftsmanship.
From 1969 to 1971, he served as an officer in the US Navy. A highly decorated Navy Seabee, his medals include two bronze stars for meritorious service in Vietnam. His time in the military exemplified his sense of duty and discipline.
Married to Karen (Cady) Bibby for 54 years, their marriage was known for its partnership and playfulness.
Known affectionately as “Bibs,” he found happiness in boating along New England’s waterways, gathering with friends for card games, building and repairing structures, and volunteering his time for causes close to home.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sons, Scott Bibby and his wife, Amy, of New Bern, North Carolina, Jason Bibby and his wife, Karissa, of East Falmouth, and Steven Bibby and his wife, Megan, of Groton Long Point, Connecticut; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Bibby.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, November 17, from 5 to 8 PM at Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home in Bourne.
Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 18, at 12:30 PM at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
