Lieutenant
Lt. William “Bill” Eugene Johnson, USN Ret, 89, of Mineral Wells, WV, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, WV on March 25th, 2023.
Bill was born on Nov. 27, 1933 to Paul William and Lucille Barbara (Dickenson) Johnson in Julesburg, CO. After Bill graduated from Wentworth Military Academy High School and Jr. College, Lexington, MO in 1953.
On February 5th, 1956, he married the one true love of his life, Donna J. Bullman. Together, they built a beautiful life.
He joined the US Navy and served for over 20 years as a Seabee in the Civil Engineering Corp. During this time, he also earned a degree in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University.
During his time in the Navy, he served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Silver Star and The Navy Combat Action Ribbon for serving in the Vietnam war.
He retired from the Navy in Aug 1977, and continued his Civil Engineering career with the Dept of Indian Affairs.
In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating and was active with the VFW; he and Donna spent as much time as possible with their children and their families, and traveling. They were also active members of Wayside Church in Vienna, WV.
Bill was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Donna; siblings Sara and Robert. He is survived by his son, Terry (Trudy) of Brooksville, FL, daughter, Penny (Kerry) of Mineral Wells, WV; grandchildren, Terry Lee of Laurens, SC, Aimee of Mineral Wells, WV, Nick (Heather) of Trenton, FL and Kim (Matt) of Mineral Wells, WV; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Ingram’s Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV on March 29th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Services will be held on March 30th at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (in the name of Donna Johnson), an organization that Bill felt strongly about.
