Mystic – James “Jim” Joseph Loughlin, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025. He was born in New York, N.Y. Oct. 29, 1940.

From 1964 to 1968, Jim proudly served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy SeaBees division and was stationed in Vietnam for part of his service.

Jim raised a family and remained in Mystic for most of his adult life until 2024, when he moved to Massachusetts to be closer to family.

Jim is survived by first wife Margaret Loughlin of Mystic; his children, Kathryn Sala (husband Fabio) and Molly Fubel (husband Joe), all of Winchester, Mass.; his son Patrick Loughlin of Redmond, Wash.; and five grandchildren: Abigail and Dylan Sala, and Max, Sarah and Myles Fubel, all of Winchester, Mass.

Jim spent his career working at General Dynamics in Groton, as an electrical engineer. He also served the Town of Groton as a town meeting representative. He became a Justice of the Peace and performed many wedding ceremonies. Jim also loved sailing. He trained and became a volunteer member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Friends and relatives are invited for a service at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton. A Celebration of Life reception to follow at the same location until 2 p.m.
