Lieutenant Commander
Randall Dean Emory of Farmville, 72, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023.
Randy was born in Lenoir County on February 5, 1951 to Hazel Inez Emory and Harry William Emory. He grew up in Kinston where he attended school, played ball, and helped his father in the masonry business. After graduating from Grainger High School, Randy attended N.C. State University. He pursued a degree in civil engineering and graduated in 1973. He married his high school sweetheart, Vickie Phillips, on May 23, 1971. In 1973, they welcomed a daughter, Carrie, and in 1976 a son, Jeff. Randy’s civil engineering journey led him to a career in the Water Resources Department at Greenville Utilities Commission in 1986. He eventually became the Director of Water Resources and held this position until his passing. Randy was very passionate about his work and was determined to always do his best in an honest and fair manner. Randy was also very proud of his 10 years of military service as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He obtained the rank of Lieutenant Commander and was honorably discharged in 1995. Randy was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family on trips, get-togethers, and at countless baseball games. He was a great lover of history and an avid reader. Randy also enjoyed spending time with his dogs Max, Sissy, and Rosie.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vickie Phillips Emory, Daughter Carrie and her husband Lee Cash, Grandsons Tyler, Zack, and Brett Cash. Son Jeff Emory and grandson Connor Emory, along with his mother Michelle Emory. Sister Patricia Emory Lefler and her husband Phil, along with their daughter, Rebecca Rine, and husband Jesse Rine. Sister Catherine Allsbrook and her husband Scott Allsbrook.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, at 11:00 A.M.at the First Baptist Church of Farmville, by Rev. Graham Byrum, and Rev. Frank Emory. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
