Lieutenant Commander
Paul Edfeldt of Vestavia Hills, Alabama passed away on June 15, 2021 at the age of 92. He was born May 24, 1929 to Alma and Paul Edfeldt, now deceased, as are his brothers and their wives, Carl and Carolyn Edfeldt and Ralph and Martha Edfeldt. Following the private burial at Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, the memorial service for Paul will be 2 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at Vestavia Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Visitation will be at the church Friday after the service. Paul grew up in Ensley, Alabama and was a member of Ensley Baptist Church. He graduated from Ensley High School and entered Georgia Tech where he was a member of the Co-Op Club, the Bulldog Club, the Glee Club, and Alpha Pi Mu. He graduated in 1952 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Paul went to work at Stockham Valves and Fittings as an engineer. Two months later, he went on active duty with the U.S. Navy Civil Engineering Corps and was stationed on Guam for two years during the Korean War. He remained in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He returned to Stockham where he was in sales in the Northeast for 10 years and then was brought back to Birmingham as Sales Promotion Manager. He retired from Stockham after 38 years and did consulting work. Paul and his wife Sue have been married for 66 years. They have been members of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church for 56 years, where he sang in the choir and held many positions of service. He wrote the 50-Year History of the church. Paul served on the Board of Directors of Sales and Marketing Professionals. He was also an active member of the American Marketing Association, Birmingham Baptist Association, M-Power, Vestavia Rotary Club, and The Club. Paul is survived by his wife, Sue; his two children, Michael Paul Edfeldt (Shelleigh) and Amy Sue Edfeldt Gillis; his grandchildren, Amy Kathryn “Katie” and Benjamin Knox Gillis Jr., and Kendall and Sydney Buckingham; great-grandson, Easton Knox Gillis; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Tovontra “Tee” Stafford, Jennifer James, Shauna Phillips, and Kenyatta King for their loving care of Paul. Paul had a smile for everyone. Memorial gifts may be made to the Music Ministry of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
