Donald Charles Sturmer, 76, entered into eternal rest on October 7, 2016, in Danville. He was born on March 29, 1940, in Albany to Eugene and Frances Sturmer.
Don was a proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy and a Vietnam Veteran, who attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps and received numerous commendations and decorations in the service, including a bronze star medal for valor in combat.
He also held advanced degrees in engineering from Purdue University and law from the University of Maryland, and he enjoyed a lengthy career in the private engineering sector before retiring as a Vice President from Bechtel Enterprises in San Francisco.
Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a man of faith, family, discipline, humility, generosity, and laughs–lots and lots of laughs. An avid sports fan and excellent golfer for much of his life, he also loved travel, hiking, and skiing.
Donald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Birute “Bee” Sturmer; children Victoria Hamm (Mitchell) of Cincinnati and Eric Darius Sturmer (Shellie) of Seattle; and grandchildren Trinity, Donovan, and Sydney.
Funeral Litrugy will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church at 2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd. in San Ramon.
Memorials in Donald’s memory may be made to the Baltic Jesuit Advancement Project or the MSA Research Fund.
