Went home to be with his Lord Wednesday August 29, 2018 at his home; age 87 years. Alan was born on April 16, 1931 in St. Joseph, MI to the late Rev. Oswald and Clara (Bernthal) Knoll. He was married to Ruth Klammer on September 15, 1952 at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church, she survives him. Alan served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by ALCOA doing research and development until his retirement. Alan was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Frankenmuth Historical Association and was the past District Governor of Rotary District 6310.

Surviving besides his wife Ruth are: 5 children; Deborah (Martin) Schroeder of Union, MO, Dave Knoll of Minneapolis, MN, Mark (Marion) Knoll of Boston, MA, Rebecca (Peter) Carr of Poolesville, MD, Andrew Knoll of Rochester, NY: 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Alan was preceded in death by 1 son; Stephen Knoll.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Brandt will officiate. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Alan’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday September 3rd from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to The Rotary Foundation, St. Lorenz Foundation or Charity of Donor’s Choice.
