NORTH BERWICK, ME John (Jack) S. Goodwin (aka Grampy), 77, of Randall Road, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 23, 2024.
He was born on December 30, 1946, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of James and May (Snyder) Goodwin. Jack graduated from high school in Pittsburgh before serving our country as a Gunner’s Mate GMG3&2 in the United States Navy and with the Seabees. Jack bravely did three tours in Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (two Bronze Stars), and Vietnam Campaign Medal with Fleet Marine Force Combat Insignia, among other heroic actions. While overseas, he also earned his black belt in Judo.
After returning stateside, Jack earned his BS in Applied Sciences at Youngstown University in Ohio and taught Judo classes while attending college. He moved to North Berwick with his young family, where he remained for the rest of his days. He made many great friends who positively impacted his life and loved living in a community that supported and sincerely cared for him and his family. Jack will be fondly remembered for tooling around town on his beloved Harley with Johanna in the sidecar or enjoying time with his grandkids. He was a member of the Combat Vets Motorcycle Group.
Vietnam was a big part of his life, as were his brothers in arms, Randy (Doc), Mikey, Ronnie, Barry, Tim, and many others. Thank you for your love and support over the years; it truly was a blessing. Jack was predeceased by his parents and brother, James (Jimmy) Goodwin. He will be forever loved by his three daughters, Rachel Duquette and her husband Chris of North Berwick; Liesl Goodwin and her husband Barry Lane of North Berwick; Lydia Goodwin of North Berwick; Heather Duquette of Sanford; his sister Janet Goodwin of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren, Gavin Duquette, Joahanna Duquette, Logan Duquette, and Cashman Steel Goodwin-Lane; and numerous veteran buddies.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, September 30, from 2 pm to 4 pm, followed by a time of remembrances at 4 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME. Interment will be Tuesday, October 1, at 10 am in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Springvale, ME. The procession will be leaving Johnson Funeral Home at 9 am for those who want to join.
