Theodore “Ted” Joseph DePaolis, age 88, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, in Spartanburg, SC. Born March 26, 1935, Geneva, New York, he was the son of the late Joseph John DePaolis and Elizabeth Marie Sorensen. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Ann Schibley DePaolis; his son, Dean Joseph DePaolis, his brother Robert J. DePaolis and his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Shelley DePaolis, and Pam Mundey (Paul), all of Moore, SC; granddaughters, Freda Flohr and Mallory Allen (E.J.); grandsons, Ian DePaolis, and Sean Mundey (Emily); great grandsons, Max Allen, and Parker Mundey; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Ted married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Schibley on August 11, 1956. During their 66 years of marriage, being a Navy family, they moved many times and lived in New York, Maine, California, Virginia, Maryland, and South Carolina. Ted retired as Master Chief from U.S. Navy Seabees in 1979 after serving 26 years. As Master Chief Equipmentman, he traveled from the Philippines to Okinawa, to Vietnam to Diego Garcia, to the presidential retreat Camp David, and points in between. He always said that it was the best job he ever had.
A memorial service, with honors presented by the US Navy Honors Team, will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Christopher Hale.
