Phillip Magnus Nelson, age 93, passed away on 9 Nov 2018 at the Sterling Commons Memory and Dementia Care facility in Victorville, CA.
Phillip was born on 23 Nov 1924 in Ramah, CO and moved to Bakersfield, CA in the 1940s. He married Dorothy Jean Hill in 1947 after serving in the US Army. He worked for Davies Machinery in Bakersfield, CA as a mechanic serving equipment durning the construction of the Lake Isabella Dam.
Phillip transferred to NWC China Lake in 1955 and retired in the 1980s with over 30 years of civil service. During his time at NWC China Lake, he enrolled in the US Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) Reserve Program and retired as a Command Master Chief. Phillip enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, fishing, camping and competitive shooting with his wife. He was active in the Ridgecrest community: past member of the Odd Fellows, Sierra Desert Gun Club . lifetime member of the NRA and VFW.
Phillip is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jean Nelson, parents Ralph Mervyn and Mary Agnes Nelson, sons Paul Edward and Marvin Wayne Nelson: brother Christopher Nelson: sisters Zella Agnes Martin, Helen Antoinetteeicher, Lillian Fern Adams and Gladys Selby Nelson.
He is survived by his brothers David Ralph and William Dale Nelson: sisters Delores Leona Nelson; grandchildren Paul David Nelson (April), Shannon Denise Leach and Jamie Hill Nelson (Samantha); and great-grandchildren Jazmonn Renee Molinas, Travis Tyler, Ryan Phillip, Jamie Jaclyn and Kyle Roland Nelson.
