Mr. James “Jim” Phillip Hiestand, age 69, of Sharpsburg, GA passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023.
He was a US Navy Seabee for 23 years before retiring from the Navy. Jim was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Newnan, GA where he led Community Hands on Action ministry. He was a life member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America Island X-3, as well as the Seabee Memorial Scholarship Association. Also, he received Military Citizen of the Year in Port Hueneme, CA and was a Folds of Honor recipient. Jim was one of the few men to serve as a Girl Scout leader.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman Hiestand and Evelyn Cohen. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara Hiestand of Sharpsburg, GA; daughters, Angela Jordan of Newnan, GA, Tawny Hiestand of Newnan, GA; brother, Thomas Hiestand (Betsy) of Pittsfield, MA; sisters, Judy Kresge of Stroudsburg, PA, Bonnie Taylor of Florida; grandchildren, Amethyst “Amy” Hiestand, Lily Jordan and Christian “CJ” Jordan.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 11, 2023 at 2:00 at Northside Baptist Church, 3070 US-29 N, Newnan, GA 30263, with Rev. Aaron Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan, GA. The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of service at Northside Baptist Church.
