It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Billy Ray Barker, affectionately known as Bill, who passed away August 17th at the age of 84. Born the youngest of nine children to Jack and Altie Barker in Arkansa, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to family, country and community.
Bill proudly served his country for 20 years as a member of the US Navy Seabees, a service that deeply shaped his character and commitment to duty. After retiring from the Navy, Bill continued his legacy of service as the Street Superintendent for the Carson City Nevada Street Department, where his leadership and dedication to the community were widely respected.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Bev (Asel) Barker and his sons Vern Barker, Brett Barker and TJ Ewing who carry forward his enduring legacy. He was a devoted grandfather to Avery, Sydney and Greyson, all of whom willl miss his loving presence. Bill was preceded in death by his grandson Cody Barker, who now joins him in eternal rest.
Billy Ray Barker will be laid to rest with full honors at the Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much in service to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
