Obituary for Wilmer “Butch” Boyle
Butch Boyle passed away on October 19, 2018 from a six month diagnosis of Lymphoma.
He was born in West Chester, PA on July 21, 1944 to the late Elizabeth and John Boyle. He entered the Navy as an engineman on the USS Jason repair ship from 1962-66, which was stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines during the Vietnam War. He continued to serve his country as a Seabee Reservist, ending his career with the rank of Chief, ALFA Company, Operations Supervisor, the Reserve Naval Construction Battalion at Lake Hurst, NJ, serving a total of 17 years.
After working various jobs in PA and living in five different homes and horse farms, he retired in 2002 and moved to Florida in 2012 so he could play golf year around. He accomplished his coveted hole-in-one on Nov. 5, 2014. He was a sport enthusiast and athlete, playing softball, golf, tennis, racquetball, jogging, driving horses, fishing and trap shooting. He was an avid magazine, book and newspaper reader and collector of American Flyer trains, coins and corvettes. He loved animals, particularly his last dog, Sam.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Carol (Finch), married since 1975; beloved nieces: Tracey A. Marshall (husband Jim) and Laura Schlotterbeck, both of Victoria, Canada; two nephews: Brian J. Prince (wife Danielle and four children) of Pittsburgh, PA and Michael J. Prince of Duvall, WA; sister-on-law Linda M. Prince of Wilmington, DE.
Butchs’ ashes will be buried in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Friday, November 9, 2018 @ 11:30am with active Navy Honors. Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Humane Society of Marion County, PO Box 1542, Ocala, FL 34478.
