William Truman Konemann Obituary
William Truman “W.T.” Konemann, 89, of Metropolis, IL, died Sunday, February 9, 2020 at his home in rural Massac County.
Mr. Konemann served in the National Guard for 1 year before joining the U.S. Navy as a Seabee, with 2 tours in Vietnam and 1 tour in Thailand, serving 20 years. Upon his return home, he went to work for Fruit Belt Farm Service in Metropolis where he retired after 27 years, then continued to work on his farm.
William was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where he served as President and Treasurer at various times.
William is survived by his wife, Opal Konemann; 2 sons, Ronald Konemann (Carolyn) of Metropolis and Gary Konemann of rural Massac County; 4 sisters, Barbara Johnston, Marian Landis, Shirley Bunting (“Butch”), and Jeanette Shreves all of Metropolis; 3 brothers, Lowell “Preach” Konemann, Donald “Pat” Konemann (Audrey) and Robert “Bobby” Konemann (Barbara); 1 sister-in-law, Janice K. Konemann; 2 grandsons, Matt Konemann of St. Louis, MO and Jeremy Konemann of Metropolis; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Gray and Janet Konemann both of Paducah, KY; 2 great granddaughters, Chastin Konemann and Jalyn Rush of Paducah, KY; 1 great-great grandson, Travon D. Jones Jr. of Paducah, KY; mother-in-law, Hilda Obermark; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Nina (Smith) Konemann; 1 sister, Margaret English; 2 brothers, Joe Warren Konemann and Bernard “Bernie” Konemann; 2 sisters-in-law, Jerlean Konemann and Janice R. Konemann; 3 brothers-in-law, Lindell Obermark, “Rus” English and Charles Shreves; 2 nieces, Patty Bailey and Phyllis English; 1 nephew, Timothy Bunting; 1 nephew-in-law, Bob Welton; father-in-law, Orval Obermark.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 6 to 8 pm at the Aikins-Farmer-Loftus-McManus Funeral Home and on Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 11 am to 1 pm at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Emmerson and Assistant Pastor Jeff Trovillion officiating. Burial will follow with military rites at St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery.
