PO3/EO3
Ronald A. Hanson passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2025.
Ron was an easy, outgoing person. He rarely met a friend he didn’t like. He was born at Union Hospital in Lynn, MA, on April 23, 1955. He attended school in North Reading, MA, and graduated in 1973. He joined the Navy Seabees (US Military Police and then The Naval Construction Battalion) from 1973 – 1977 and was very proud of his service to his country. His service with the Navy Seabees had him in Gulfport MS, Cuba, and Morocco. He explored many of our East Coast states, spending his last 15 years in the Fredericksburg, VA area.
His love of motorcycles took him on many adventures with friends and family. He enjoyed trapping and hunting and worked with the Maine Warden Service. He was an avid cyclist and peddled many miles camping and exploring most notably the Fredericksburg area and the many battlefields in the area.
Once settled in Virginia, he worked at Morton’s BMW in Fredericksburg, where he made lots of lasting friendships. After his retirement in 2017, he regularly spent his Sunday afternoons at Old House Vineyards in Stevensberg, VA, with his long-time companion, Kim. He could be found each week sitting at his favorite table with a regular compliment of friends. Life was good!
Survivors include his mother, E. Elizabeth Hanson; sister Debra Hanson; brothers Douglas Hanson (Rhonda) and Stephen Hanson; daughter Heather Lane (Matthew); son Gregory Hanson (Cara); six grandchildren; 3 nieces/nephews; uncle Ronald Hanson; cousins Michael Hanson and Mark Hanson; long-time companion Kim Hoffman; and many lifelong friends around the country. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Allan Hanson.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Christ Episcopal Church, 8951 Courthouse Rd, Spotsylvania, VA, 22553. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, at East Baptist Church, 300 Western Ave, Lynn, MA, 01904. Burial will be private.
