Peter G. Mulville
Served as part of the Seabee’s Mobile Construction Unit in the Navy in the Korean War
NORFOLK – Peter G. Mulville, 90, died peacefully on Friday, July 16, 2021, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Teresa Rose (Segalla) Mulville for 53 years.
Born Oct. 26, 1930, in Winsted, Peter was the son of the late Gerald and Helen (Carroll) Mulville. He devoted himself to owning and operating the family business, M.F. Mulville & Sons Inc., and was a member of the Mason’s Union.
Peter served in the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 in the Navy as part of the Seabee’s Mobile Construction Unit, Battalion 4. He served in such places as Bermuda, North Africa, Newfoundland, and Cuba, as an Equipment Operator 3rd class. He was a member of the Seabee’s Veterans of America, Torrington, Conn., Island X-1. The Seabee’s is where he made lifelong friends who are in touch to this day. We thank them for their friendship.
Peter was active in the town of Norfolk, and served many years on the Democratic Town Committee, Board of Education, Board of Finance, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Norfolk Volunteer Fire Department. He also served for years on Meadow Brook board of directors, and was instrumental in adding a generator to the building to better serve its residents. In addition, he was a founding member of the Norfolk Curling Club.
In 2009, Peter was awarded the Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation from the Archbishop of Hartford for dedicated work to the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Peter was an avid card player with a specialty in “Set-Back.” Starting when his father was alive, he and friends played every Friday night and Sunday morning. When asked how he did, he stated he “always broke even.” In 2020, he last played cards at Norbrook Brewery and won a prize for the best team with his lifelong friend, Ronnie Zanobi.
He leaves his daughters, Kathy Van Valen and husband Bruce of Torrington, Karen Mulville of Denver, Debbie Athorn and husband John of Fairfield, and Colleen Poole and husband Bob of Winsted. He also leaves five loving grandchildren, Ryan Deasy, Conor Deasy, Chelsea Athorn, Lauren Gentile and husband Matt, and Dana Athorn, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Patricia Nielsen, Michael Mulville and Carroll Mulville.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 922 Main Street, Winsted, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at St. Martin of Tours Church, Norfolk, with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Norfolk.
