Petty Officer Second Class, Maxim Popov Ellenwood – husband, father, and devoted U.S. Navy Sailor, passed away on November 19, 2025, while on active-duty orders, at Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme, California.
Max was born on September 28, 2000 in Kursk, Russia. He grew up in Jackson, Michigan where he spent his childhood with his brother and sister-in-law Michael and Kristina Ellenwood – enjoying traveling, fishing, hunting, video gaming, and welding.
Max graduated from Michigan Youth Challenge Academy on December 16, 2017, and joined the U.S. Navy on October 9, 2019, where he proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee Equipment Operator. Before his most recent assignment in Port Hueneme, CA, Max was a member of Firing Party for the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard, where he conducted hundreds of ceremonies honoring the lives of veterans all over the world. At the conclusion of his two-year assignment, he was awarded a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his exceptional professionalism and expertise as a guardsman.
Over the last two years, while on active-duty, Max deployed overseas to the Indo Pacific Area of Responsibility where he earned the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. Max loved his job and had so much pride in serving our country. He had plans to serve for his entire career.
Those walking forward with his love in their hearts are his loving wife, Isabela Ellenwood and son, Shai Ellenwood. Max loved having movie nights with his family, reading stories to Shai, and building Legos with him. He was innovative, intelligent, tech savvy, and passionate about building computers.
Max was, and will always be, an unforgettable soul and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he impacted.
A Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street., Manassas VA 20110. Following the visitation, a Graveside Service along with Full Military Honors will be held at 1:30 PM at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172.
