Vincent Carl Brandts, 80, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Ava’s House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024 at St. John American Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.  Visitation with family present to greet friends will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 3, 2024 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory, Sioux Falls.  Interment will take place at the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.  PLEASE CLICK HERE AT 12 PM ON FRIDAY TO VIEW HIS SERVICE ONLINE.

Vincent Carl Brandts was born on April 12, 1944 in Sioux Falls, SD to Russell William and Josphine Agatha (Castle) Brandts.  He was raised and received his education in Sioux Falls, SD and Omaha Nebraska graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1962.   In 1961 Vincent joined the United States Navy Reserve and following high school graduation became active duty with the Seabee’s.  Vincent then spent the next 20-years honorably serving with the Navy Reserves. He was a member of the VFW and through the VFW the M.O.C.

While working at the VFW in Sioux Falls, Vincent met Karen Jones.  The couple were united in marriage on June 18, 1983 in East Lyme Connecticut.  Vincent and Karen first made their home in Sioux Falls and were blessed with three children Vincent J., and twins Heidi and Cory Brandts.  The couple then made their home on an acreage near Emery, SD until moving to Sioux Falls in 2014.

Vincent worked for Baete-Forseth in sheet metal for many years and then over 25-years with ATC Associates Inc. until his retirement.

In his younger years, Vincent enjoyed playing slow pitch softball and bowling.   And in his later years traveling; especially to Alaska, Hawaii, Black Hills of South Dakota or to his cousin’s cabin on Mina Lake.  He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan, but mainly loved cheering on his children and their sporting events.  Above all, he loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, patriot and friend who will be deeply missed.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Karen Brandts, Sioux Falls, SD; three children, Vincent J. (Trisha) Brandts, Bennington, NE, Heidi Brandts, Sioux Falls, SD and Cory Brandts, Smithfield, VA; three grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Brandts and Josephine “Josie” Agnew; three sisters, Margaret “Cookie” Clapper, Carter Lake, IA, Nancy (John) Bergmann, Plattsmouth, NE, and Kathleen Brandts, Carter Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Brenda Brandts, Rosemond, CA; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Josephine Brandts; two sisters, Myrna Jean Brandts and Mary “Lorraine” Hayden; and one brother, Russell Brandts.
