James Harvey Cole, Sr, 88, of O’Fallon, MO passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 due to complications from a recent illness.
He was born October 13, 1929 to John Harvey and Pearl Mae (Smith) Cole in University City, MO. He was married to Henrietta Mennemeier on October 7, 1950 in St. Charles, MO at St. Peters Church.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: James Cole Jr (Carol) of St Charles, Yvonne Welker (Gary) of St Peters, Steven Cole (Susan) of Honolulu, HI, Diane Farley (Kevin) of Aurora, CO, Christine Crawford (Jay) of O’Fallon, Joseph Cole (Julie) of San Antonio, TX, and Victoria Randall (William) of Fulton; 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and one on the way, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Pearl Cole and siblings Judy, Ruth Ann, John and Thomas Cole, granddaughter Pamela Wing, and great granddaughter Faith Kathryn Cole.
He attended Wellston High School and joined the Army in 1946. James retired from Laclede Gas Company, where he worked as a laborer and heavy equipment operator for 40 years. He retired after 20 years from the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) Reserve.
James was active in the Gas Workers Union 11-6, Loyal Order of the Moose, Fleet Reserves, Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 388, and American Legion Honor Guard.
James enjoyed travelling with the Reserves and in his retirement. His attention to detail, responsible nature and honesty made him a valuable bookkeeper and secretary for multiple organizations.
His proudest accomplishment was the seven children he and Henrietta raised.
