PO1/EO1
Edward A. Kuni Sr., age 68, of Pittsfield, died Thursday, August 22, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on June 1, 1956, Ed was a son of the late Erwin A. Kuni Sr. and Margaret Bentley Kuni. He was a 1975 graduate of Taconic High School. Following high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. Ed was trained as a high-pressure welder and as a carpenter. He was a proud Seabee, and in his 21 years as a US Navy Reservist, went on many deployments across the US and Europe. He loved to travel and did so both in his careers and his personal life.
Ed had his own business, Kuni Construction, before he began a 25-year career working for the City of Pittsfield as the Assistant Director of Buildings and Maintenance. In his retirement, Ed began working for Northeast Precision Welding, where he enjoyed his last 6 years.
Ed loved his hit & miss engines and antique trucks. June of last year he bought his 1951 5-Window Chevy pickup truck and loved taking it to local car shows and working on it in the garage. A man of many talents, he could truly fix anything.
Edward married the former Deborah A. Norton on November 28, 1975, at St. Mark’s Church. The two loved their many travels, especially their trips to Hawaii, and the visits they spent with their beloved grandchildren in California.
In addition to his wife and best friend, Deb, Ed is survived by his son, Edward A. Kuni Jr., his grandchildren, Kira Elizabeth Kuni and Felix Sterling Kuni, and his siblings, Erwin A. Kuni Jr. (Ann), Shirley M. Finney, Charles G. Kuni (Linda), Raymond J. Kuni (Kim), Mary A. Kuni-Schilling (Dennis), and John C. Kuni (Lorena). He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
SERVICES: Friends are invited to join with Ed’s family on WEDNESDAY, August 28, 2024, at the Devanny-Condron Funeral Home beginning at 4PM. A funeral home blessing service and Military Honors will begin at 6PM. Burial will be at a later date.
