CRESAPTOWN – Donald Raymond Harden, 80, of Cresaptown, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at UPMC Western Maryland.
Born June 28, 1943, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Donald Glenn and Josephine (Crosby) Harden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Millie Murphy; stepson, Dusty Garcia; and best friend, Emory Davis.
Don was a graduate of LaSalle High School where he had been a three-sport standout athlete. He went on to retire from the United States Navy Seabees after years of serving his country. For 25 years, he was an over-the-road truck driver for Kelly Springfield. Don was proud to hold the free throw record at the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament, but most of all he was proud of his work. He built his business, Don Harden Excavating, Inc. from the ground up. Don poured himself into his work, and everyone who knew him knew that his work was his life.
On the rare occasion that Don was not working, he loved going on cruises and vacations to Surfside Beach, SC.
Don leaves behind his wife, Sheila (Helmer) Harden; children, Bobby Robison, Cami Bosley (Darrin), Shannon Robison (Stephanie), and Donald Harden, II; grandchildren, Ashley Robison, Eric Robison, Taylor Robison, Michael Harden (Brittany), Keegan Garcia, Emily Custer (Scott), Chianne Bosley, Nicolas Harden, and Eden Robison; great-grandchildren, George, Remy, Hudson, Rider, Portia, and Prescott; brother, Bob Harden (Jeanie); many nieces and nephews; special friends, John Pratt and Ronnie Winters, as well as many more great friends – too many to list.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the employees of UPMC Western Maryland ICU, ER, and High Level Care.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, from 4 to 8pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, January 25, at 11am with Pastor Dan Twigg officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
