Roland “Dinky” Witt, 80, of Hobe Sound, Florida, formerly of Hawk Point, MO, passed away at Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was born on July 12, 1943 in Peruque, MO to Pete and Rose (Kerpash) Witt. His family moved to Hawk Point when he was 6 years old and attended the local schools with his four siblings. Roland graduated from Buchanan High School and lettered in baseball. After graduation he enlisted in U.S. Navy Seabees and proudly served his country. While enlisted, he earned National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and two citations, Gallantry Cross Medal and Civil Actions Medal.
Roland was a Survey Engineer for Raythean for over 40 years and was an excellent employee. He loved baseball, especially St. Louis Cardinals and rarely missed a game. He enjoyed restoring antique cars, fishing, traveling and playing golf. Roland was the Post Commander for VFW Post 10132, District Commander and was a member of Shriner’s International. He was the fun uncle who would drive his RV home to Missouri to visit or family would head down to Florida to visit him. He really considered his nieces, nephews to be like his own children. Roland will be sadly missed and long remembered by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sister, Alberta “Sissie” Tuepker of Hawk Point, MO, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jack Witt, Charles Witt and Peggy Overkamp.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9 a.m.- 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hawk Point, MO.
Memorial Mass will also be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10 a.m. St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hawk Point, MO Father Edward Godefroid to officiate.
