EAD3 David “Dave” Lynn Babe

PO3/EAD3

Date of birth 12/04/1943
Date of passing 09/22/2025

David Lynn “Dave” Babe, 81, of Lake Leelanau, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 22, 2025 with his loving family by his side.

Dave was born on December 4, 1943, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, to the late Samuel and Laverne (Briggs) Babe. He grew up on Lake St. Clair, where he enjoyed a wonderful childhood of fishing, boating, and lake adventures. He graduated with the Class of 1962 from L’Anse Creuse High School.

Following graduation, Dave proudly served his country in the Seabees Division of the United States Navy. After his service, he attended Michigan State University before transferring to Lawrence Technological University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

In 1973, Dave met the love of his life, Anastasia Matusik, and in 1974 they were married at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church in Taylor, Michigan. Together they were blessed with a son, Terry.

Dave began his career in mechanical engineering in the auto industry in Detroit, where he worked as a draftsman and executive for over 25 years. He then followed his passion for real estate and architectural design, which led him to northern Michigan to create DLB Design and live at his family’s cherished home on the lake. He especially loved his role in real estate development for the Grand Traverse Resort, a place where many of his interests merged.

Beyond his career, Dave lived life to the fullest. He loved boating and walleye fishing, was an avid golfer, enjoyed architecture and drawing, and could often be found reading or working on puzzles. A lifelong Detroit sports fan, he was especially loyal to the Tigers and Lions. He was a gifted storyteller, sharing memories and history from his life, and treasured time spent with friends and colleagues fishing, golfing, and gathering socially. In later years, he enjoyed alternating spending summertime on Lake Leelanau and winters in Florida; his greatest joy was found in time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Anastasia of 51 devoted years; his son, Terry (Carrie) Babe; grandchildren, Tyler and Evelyn; brother, Phil (Yvonne) Babe; his beloved grand-dog, Country; and many other dear family members and friends.

A private family gathering with military honors will be held. Memorial contributions may be directed to the U.S. Navy Seabees Foundation, The American Cancer Society (for prostate cancer research), or for Mass intentions in Dave’s memory.
