Ventura – Frank Lynn Nelson, aged 82, of Ventura passed away at home on December 10th, 2022, surrounded by his wife and his four children after a long illness. He was born April 27, 1940, in Eureka, California, to Thomas and Frances Nelson. He graduated from Eureka High School, and attended college at Humboldt State University, while also working for the US Forest Service. Frank served in the US Navy as a Seabee as an Engineering Aide, stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base, eventually earning a Civil Engineer license. On June 15, 1964, he was married to Margery Schuster of Minnesota, and they settled in Ventura, California.

Frank started his career as a Civil Engineer, working for County of Ventura, private firms, and finally the City of Ventura. You could ask him anything about building projects and he would know what was going in, where, and often had entertaining backstories. In Frank’s younger years he was very active in Soccer as a player, coach, and a referee. He supported his four children who all played in the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), as well as coaching his son’s teams for many years.

Frank is survived by his wife Margery Nelson, daughters Becky Galceran of Albany, Oregon, Anne Clayton of Ventura, Candace Nelson, of Boston, Massachusetts, son Frank Nelson Jr, of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and grandchildren Ben and Davey Galceran, and Naomi Brook. Frank was a kind and gentle soul, always ready to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. His hugs and smiles will always be remembered and are missed greatly.

The family had a private gathering and will continue to celebrate his life with gratitude for the time we all had with him. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Frank’s name to the Seabee Historical Foundation, or the AYSO Playership Fund.
