Final Salute

Harry “Bo” Odom, 90, born January 4, 1935, in Perry, Florida, passed away on January 1, 2026. He was the son of Marvin and Ethel Cash Odom and stepson of Lillie Parker Odom. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and was raised with strong family values and a deep sense of service that guided him throughout his life.

Harry attended Perry City Grammar School and graduated from Taylor County High School in Florida. He continued his education extensively, attending various U.S. Navy schools and earning an associate degree from Floyd Junior College, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Berry College, and a warm air heating certificate from Coosa Valley Technical School.

Harry proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a SeaBee and later as a data processing technician, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his military career, he was stationed in many locations around the world, including Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, Adak and Kodiak in Alaska, the Bahamas, Cuba, Maryland, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Northern Ireland. His service reflected his dedication, leadership, and strong work ethic.

Following his military service, Harry continued a life of public service and professional commitment. He worked for Rome City Schools, the Federal Crop Insurance Agency, and the Georgia Department of Labor, where he served as a U.S. Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist, helping fellow veterans find support and opportunity.

Harry was a devoted member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church and lived his faith through service to others. He was known for his steadiness, integrity, and willingness to help wherever he was needed.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Brenda Alexander Odom; his children, Gregory Odom (Karen) and Shaun Odom (Allison); his grandchildren, Justin Odom (Angela), Robert Tyler Odom (Colleen), Caitlyn Carroll (Taylor), and Alexandra Gibson (Sammy); his great-grandchildren, Nash, Wyatt, Harrison, Carson, and Ashton; three siblings, Joellen Brantley, Linda Kirk, and Marylin Culpepper (David); and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of his great-grandson, Jaxon Bo Gibson, and great-granddaughter, Sophie Elise Odom, whom he spoke of with great excitement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ethel Cash Odom; his stepmother, Lillie Parker Odom; his siblings, Dean Stanley Odom and Pattie Stone; his brothers-in-law, Cliff Kirk, Charles Brantley, and George Stone; and his sister-in-law, Lois Odom.

Funeral services will be held at 12pm on Monday, January 5, 2026, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiating the service and military rites being delivered by active members of the Unites States Navy with assistance from the Rome American Legion Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 11am until service time at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.

Pallbearers are to assemble by 11:30am on Monday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, and include: Justin Odom, Robert Odom, Samuel Gibson, Taylor Carroll, Roby Hammond, Bobby Hammond, Jim Huston.
