California, Missouri – Edwin James Garside, Jr passed away June 1st, 2022, in California, Missouri. Born on September 13th, 1956, to Edwin James Garside, Sr., and Thelma Garside in Bermuda, Ed “Speedy” grew up on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. Upon graduating from high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Navy and served with distinction for 24 years as a Seabee, retiring as Master Chief Petty Officer Constructionman. He regarded his time served in the Navy as one of his life’s greatest accomplishments and would share with his family many stories of the posts he held and the servicemen and women he had the privilege to serve with.
Upon retiring from the military, Ed continued to use his experience and expertise as he moved into the next chapter of his career. Ed worked as a civil engineer with a focus on commercial landscaping and infrastructure. Over the span of 22 years, Ed led multiple crews with Valley Crest Landscape Development, American Civil Constructors and ended his career as Operations Manager Landscaping Division at WestCo in Houston, Texas. Upon his retirement, he had moved to California, Missouri to be near family.
Ed loved hitting the open road on his Harley, and spending quiet time at home with a good book and his family. Ed was a natural leader and a captivating storyteller with a life full of incredible experiences to call upon.
Ed is preceded in death by this parents, Edwin and Thelma; his brother, John Garside; and best dog friend, Buddy. He is survived by his loving wife, Karen Garside, children Amanda (Geoff) Samples, Cassandra (Nick) Olson, James (Sammy) Garside, Lyndsy (Scott) Adams, Heather (Rick) Edwards and grandchildren, Wyatt, Sawyer, Evan, Hazel, Lorenzo, Dex, Reeve, Zoe and Will. He is also survived by his brother, Lenny, many other friends, family and his Labradoodle pup, George.
