Command Master Chief Larry Wilbur Stringfield, “Papa,” Retired Seabee USN, 76, passed away on March 6, 2026, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. Born in Sunbright, TN on August 22, 1949, to Wilbur and Ruby Stringfield, he built a distinguished and respected career in the U.S. Marine Corp. and U.S. Navy, serving just shy of 30 years and a combat veteran in both the Vietnam and Gulf Wars.

He was a builder, architect, and carpenter, but above that, he was a man of convictions and honor; known for his strong presence, unwavering integrity, trustworthy in his counsel, and ability to approach every challenge with confidence and clarity. He loved travel and fishing, but watching his grandkids play guitar, baseball, football and horseback riding was his most joyful endeavor.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wilbur and Ruby, and his tender brother, Daniel Stringfield, and his beloved sister, Phyllis Hill, and brother-in-law, John Hill. He is survived by his wife of more than 53 years, Olga; his daughters (Valerie with Robert and Claudia), his 5 sisters, 8 nephews, 5 nieces, and great nieces and nephews. He was lovingly known as “Papa” to his four grandchildren—Ryan, Mason, Ireland, and Timothy—who brought him endless joy.

Larry leaves behind a wide circle of family, friends, and colleagues who will remember him for his candor, loyalty, and the unmistakable stalwart nature he brought into every room. His legacy lives on in the people he loved, the Country he served, and the many stories that will continue to be shared about him for years to come.

Our family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice for their care and support in his final days and Contryside Funeral Home.

A burial with honors will be March 12, 2026, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
