Michael H. Grace III, CMCS (SWC), USN Ret.

St. Augustine, FL – Michael H. Grace III, a beloved husband, father, and dedicated veteran, passed away on January 2, 2025, in St. Johns, Florida, at the age of 78. Born on 25 May 1946, in Miami, Florida, Mike was the son of Michael H. Grace Jr. and Geanavie Lanier Grace. He grew up in Miami, graduating in 1964 from Miami Senior High School.

Mike proudly served his country as a Construction Mechanic Third Class (CM3) with the U.S. Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. After returning from his deployment, Mike furthered his education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Florida State University in 1973, after attending Miami Dade Junior College. He continued his military service in the U.S. Navy Reserves, retiring in 1996 as a Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO).

In addition to his military service, Mike showed immense dedication to his community. Even though his family home suffered damage during Hurricane Andrew, he volunteered to be recalled to active duty. He played a key role in the recovery efforts, overseeing the repair of 31 schools in South Dade County. His service earned him the Humanitarian Medal.

A respected professional, Mike worked for Florida Power and Light as a superintendent of fleet management from 1973 to 1993. He then went on to serve as the director of fleet management for the South Florida Water Management District before retiring in 2012 as the manager of the fleet department for St. Johns County, Florida.

Mike was also an active member of several community organizations, including the Shrine Club, Masons, Elks, and the American Legion.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Sharyn “Sug” Morrow Grace; his sons, Mike Grace IV and Geoffrey Grace; his “favorite daughter,” Megan Grace Nuckles (John Nuckles); his granddaughters, Liberty “Libby” Grace and Genavie Grace “Gigi” Nuckles; his sister, Geanavie Grace Smith and her daughters, Katherine Diaz and Heather Bennett.

Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his unwavering dedication, kindness, and the joy he brought to his family and community.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11:00, at Craig Funeral Home, including Masononic Rites performed by the Ashlar Lodge 98 FAAM and military honors provided by the USN. A reception will follow at the St. Augustine Shrine Club.
