Garry Kim Miller, 58, of Edwardsville, IL, entered his rest to await the resurrection on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at his home in Edwardsville.

Garry was born to Darrel Keith Miller and the late Irma Jean (Boettcher) Miller at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, IL, on March 27, 1964. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Chebanse, IL, on April 26, 1964, and was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Edwardsville, in 1978. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1982.

Garry volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, entering the service after high school and retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 2002 after 20 years of service. He served proudly as a Navy Seabee Construction Mechanic and made numerous deployments around the globe. He received many awards and medals, including the Navy Commendation Medal and the Seabee Combat Warfare Designation, while serving in combat zones and peacetime. His duty stations included Guantanamo Bay, Operation Desert Storm, Somalia, Guam, Bosnia, Spain, Port Hueneme, Naval Base Coronado, and others. His favorite duty station was the Philippines, where he met his wife, Pilar (Mendoza) Miller. They were married on August 31, 1985.

Garry was preceded in death by his mother, Irma Jean Miller. He is survived by his father, Darrel; wife, Pilar; beloved children, Cheryl and Kyle; brothers, Timothy (Lori) Miller and Shaun Miller; sister, Sandra (Matthew) Bowers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones, including friends worldwide.

Garry was an avid golfer. Wherever he was stationed, his golf clubs went with him. He was a member of American Legion Post 199 in Edwardsville and spent many hours playing with other members, family, and friends.

A memorial service is set for 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd., St. Louis. The Rev. Benjamin T. Ball, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL, will officiate. Weber & Rodney Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
