Robert William Schmidt, 79 went to sleep at the Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS on December 31, 2024 and woke in the presence of the Lord. He was born in Jackson, MS and grew up in Gluckstadt,MS. (Or Downtown Gluckstadt as he would say)

He studied for 2 years at Mississippi State University before enlisting in The United States Navy as a Seabee. Construction Mechanic Petty Officer 2nd Class Schmidt served in Vietnam. While there, he served as a diesel mechanic and worked with the Marines building roads and bridges for transportation. He earned a National Defense Service Medal, 3 Bronze Stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medals.

After his discharge from the Navy he was an over the road driver for Ohio Fast Freight. He retired from Strategic Materials in Flowood.

Robert loved riding horses and having a good time. He was a family man. He loved his family with all of his heart and supported them in his own way. He always brought a smile, positive attitude, and funny jokes to every situation to lighten the mood. He always looked for the lesson that could be learned during the hard times throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Frances Schmidt, his Sister Marion Darby, his Brother Edward Jr. Schmidt and his second wife Patti. He is survived by his wife Anne, his sister Florette (Ken) Hootsell, his “brother from another mother” Sonny (Jeanie) Hendricks, his daughter Jan-marie (Buddy) Harvey, Step sons Brad (Michelle) Templeton, Bob (Ann Marie) Templeton, grandchildren, Tommy and Kathryn Harvey, Blake (Abigail) Channell, Riley (Chase) Beemon, great grand-daughter Ainsley Cole, and step great grandson Wilson Templeton.

A visitation for Robert will be held on Tuesday, January 7, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Madison, Mississippi from 10:00 to 11:00am. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00am. Graveside services will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery after mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Kosciusko VA Home and the Mustard Seed.
