Fred R. Doliber Jr. Obituary
Fred R. Doliber Jr., 92 years old passed away peacefully on early Thursday morning the 2nd of January at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after being transferred from Springbrook Long Term Care in Westbrook, Maine. It was time.
Fred was born in Searsport Maine, one of seven children of Gagie (Howard) Doliber and Fred R. Doliber Sr. on November 20, 1927.
On the 14th of October 1948 upon his return from his tour in the Navy he married Althea M. Clark. They lived in Stockton Springs for few years and moved to Searsport where they lived and raised their family on Norris Street for more than 55 years.
He was most proud of his military services. Fred served in the U S Navy during World War II aboard the USS Wilke DE 800 and in the Mediterranean Sea on the USS Fiske DD 842. Upon returning to civilian life he served in the Army National Guard, the Air National Guard and finally in the US Naval Reserve SeaBee NMCB 27 retiring grade E6 with over 35 years of service. During his military career he received the Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal with three stars, WW II Victory Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He was an Expert Rifleman and attended many service schools and received numerous awards.
Fred is a Member of the USS Fiske DD842 Association, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 43 in Belfast Maine and the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 156.
Fred was a skilled automotive mechanic working at Bangor Motors during his early years. The cars he owned including English Fords, Henry J, Corvair and several VW showed his automotive skills. He also had two repair shops that he opened. One as part owner in Stockton Springs, Maine and his own shop in Searsport, Maine as well as Fred’s Small Engine Repair from his garage at home.
Fred as a Doliber of course lobstered and clammed throughout his life. Fred finished his working career at Hamilton Marine in Searsport. He spoke fondly of the people and the time he worked there.
Fred is predeceased by his parents; and by his wife of 70 years Althea M. Doliber; and two brothers Kelly and Henry Doliber.
He is survived by his sisters Joyce Doliber of Searsport, Priscilla Sanborn and husband Robert of Searsport, Harriet Seekins and husband James Browning of Oak Island, NC. and Linda McKenney and husband Harold of Stockton Springs; he is also survived by his son Fred B. Doliber and wife Carmen of Arundel; and a daughter Karen E. Doliber of Saco; as well as granddaughter, step grandchildren and seven step-great granddaughters; and also by nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and Friends will gather for visitation at 12 noon until the time of service at 1 pm on Friday January 10, 2020 at Young Funeral Home 31 West Main Street Searsport, Maine 04974.
