Date of passing 02/02/2024

Mr. Marvin Fletcher Medlin, age 85 of Lebanon, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1938, in Monroe, North Carolina to the late James Albert Medlin, Jr. and Janie Faye Moore Medlin.

Marvin was a graduate of Union High School in Union County, NC. After high school, he attended Nashville Auto Diesel College. He served his country in the US Navy from 1958 until 1962. Mr. Medlin was a Construction Mechanic in the Navy and was a Seabee.

While in the military he lived and worked in numerous places around the globe, most notably in Antarctica. If you knew Marvin, you most likely heard many tales of his time spent there.

He met the love of his life, Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Cooper Medlin, and the couple married on March 10, 1962. Marvin was a very talented and well-rounded person. He was an excellent diesel mechanic and worked for Thompson Green Caterpillar, Cummins Diesel in Knoxville, TN, and Tennessee White Truck Sales & Service in Knoxville, TN before joining TVA from 1967 until his retirement in 1988.

He loved being around people. Marvin never met a stranger and could remember every little detail of most any conversation. If you had the privilege to be his friend, you would have a true friend for life. His care and love for others was on constant display as he went about his daily life. Marvin loved his family and bragged on them every chance he could. He had one love however that would surpass even his love for his wife and kids.

That was his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Marvin was first and foremost a follower of Christ. He believed in attending church and serving in any way possible. He was a deacon for many years and always made sure his family was in church whenever and wherever they lived. Marvin was saved as a young man. He was an extremely faithful member of Barton’s Creek Baptist Church in Lebanon. He never hesitated to tell you how good his God was and was unashamed to share the gospel with anyone at any time. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is now rejoicing with the saints at the feet of Jesus.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Janeen Holmes, Brenda Medlin, and brother, Robert Medlin.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years Dot Medlin; sons, Jeff (Jennifer) Medlin of Mt. Juliet, Joe Medlin of Lebanon, and Jim (Andrea) Medlin of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Gregg Medlin, Kassie (Tim) Burkeen, Cory (Ivy) Rogers, Caroline Medlin, David Medlin, Katherine (Edward) Dempsy, Mark Medlin, Fletcher Medlin, Avery Medlin, Addison Medlin, and Henry Medlin; great-grandchild, Nora Burkeen; brothers, Kenneth (Judy) Medlin and Doug (Patricia) Medlin; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM from Barton’s Creek Baptist Church (1530 Barton’s Creek Rd. Lebanon, TN 37090). Bro. Jacob Colwell and Bro. W.D. Thomason will officiate, and interment with military honors will follow in Barton’s Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday at Barton’s Creek Baptist Church from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday after 10:00 AM.

In addition to his grandsons, pallbearers will be Tony Patton and Mike Matney; Honorary pallbearers will be Guy Dockery, John Bass, Deacons of Barton’s Creek Church, and the Steadfast Sunday School Class.
