Peter Alan Turner, 78, died April 24, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA, to the late Peter and Eleanor Turner.
He was a proud veteran of the US Navy Seabees (1964 to 1970), including a Vietnam combat duty tour. Upon discharge, Mr. Turner attended and graduated from Berkshire Community College and North Adams State College. He received a fellowship from the University of Vermont. Mr. Turner taught Social Studies at Randolph Union High School in Randolph, Vermont. There, he served as department head and coached the varsity boys’ basketball and soccer teams. He was also president of the teachers’ association and had a yearbook dedicated to him.
After teaching, he held senior executive positions in several companies, including Wright-Line and C.R. Daniels. Upon retiring, Mr. Turner volunteered at the North Carroll Senior Center, where he taught woodcarving for many years. He was also a long-term president of the Carroll Carvers, a member of the Veterans Book Club, and American Legion Post 200. Mr. Turner also served as president of the Park Place Condos Association.
As a published author, he has written more than thirty western novels. He was also a Boy Scout leader and, with his son Sean, participated in a ten-day backpacking trip at the Boy Scouts of America Ranch in Philmont, New Mexico. Besides writing and woodcarving, Mr. Turner enjoyed fishing, visiting with his grandchildren, sipping bourbon, and road trips in his classic Jaguar.
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Susan Louise Turner, a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Fawn Turner, of Hampstead, and a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and John Keck, also of Hampstead. He was Papa to his four grandchildren, Katrina, Peter, Anna, Brad, and two great-grandchildren.
As per his wishes, service and interment are private.
He actively supported and contributed to the Carroll County Veterans Independence Project. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to this organization.
